World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continued his dominant run at ATP Masters 1000 events, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Italian Open in Rome by defeating fellow Italian Andrea Pellegrino 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth round. The 24-year-old’s victory marked his 31st consecutive win at Masters tournaments, tying the record set by Novak Djokovic in 2011.
Sinner has now won five straight Masters titles—a feat unprecedented since the category was introduced in 1990. He claimed victories at Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, and Madrid in 2026, in addition to the last Masters of the previous season in Paris.
His last loss at this level came in Shanghai (September 29 to October 12, 2025), where he retired in the third round due to cramps.
In the quarterfinals, Sinner will face the winner of the match between Russia’s Andrey Rublev and Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili. In another match, third-ranked Alexander Zverev of Germany fell to Italy’s Luciano Darderi (ranked 20th) 6-1, 6-7(12), 0-6, failing to reach the quarterfinals.
The Rome ATP Masters 1000, with a prize fund of €8.235 million, is set to conclude on May 17. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain withdrew from the tournament due to injury.
