Turan, managed by Russian tactician Kurban Berdyev, claimed a 1-0 home win against Karvan in the 31st matchday of the Azerbaijan Premier League. The result secures at least third place for the club, guaranteeing them a spot in the UEFA Conference League. With two games left, Turan trail second-placed Qarabag by four points and still hold slim hopes of overtaking them, while Sabah have already clinched the championship.
“My success in Azerbaijan holds a special place in my career. Over these two years, we started from the very bottom and reached where we are now — qualifying for European competitions. The club president set a goal of strengthening the squad, and we are looking for options to bring in players. When you invite footballers, they look at whether the club plays in Europe. Now it will be easier,” Berdyev said.
Berdyev previously led Rubin Kazan to Russian Premier League titles (2008, 2009), a Russian Cup (2011/12), and two Super Cups (2010, 2012). He also guided Rostov to a silver medal finish in the 2015/16 season. Both teams competed in European tournaments during his tenure.
