Former England spinner Kirstie Gordon is poised to make her first appearance for Scotland in nearly nine years, after being selected in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The 28-year-old, who represented Scotland 60 times before committing to England’s professional system full-time, has now been named in the 15-player group. Born in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Gordon featured in five matches during the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup, where England finished as runners-up, and also played a Test against Australia in 2019. She pledged her international future to Scotland last December but has only recently recovered from a back injury.

Kathryn Bryce will lead the side, which includes three changes from the World Cup qualifier in Nepal earlier this year. Young seam bowlers Gabriella Fontenla and Maisie Maceira join the squad alongside Gordon, while Niamh Robertson-Jack, Mollie Parker, and Hannah Rainey—who left the Nepal tour due to injury—miss out. Robertson-Jack and Ellen Watson will instead take part in a pre-tournament tri-series against the Netherlands and Bangladesh before joining the wider squad.

Scotland will open their World Cup campaign against Ireland at Old Trafford on 13 June, before facing England, West Indies, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka in Group B.

Head coach Craig Wallace said: “It’s a huge boost to have Kirstie available, both as a player and a person. The way we’re playing made it the easiest sell. We’re heading to this World Cup and hopefully more to come. It’s so much bigger and better than when she made her debut for Scotland. She brings outstanding skill and experience from her previous career, and there’s more I hope I can bring out of her as well.”
