The tense conclusion of El Clásico between Real Madrid and Barcelona has led to disciplinary actions from the Competition Committee. The altercation erupted in the 99th minute of the match.
A total of six players received sanctions. Five were shown yellow cards, while Andriy Lunin was handed a one-match suspension for “conduct contrary to good sporting order.”
Real Madrid’s appeal argued that Lunin “left his bench solely to intervene between Ferran Torres and Vinicius Jr in an obvious attempt to prevent a confrontation and restore calm.” They further claimed that “this conciliatory intervention is consistent with his personal and professional profile as a calm, non-aggressive individual.” They requested the disciplinary action be overturned.
However, the Committee found that the images presented by Real Madrid did not contradict the referee’s official report. As a result, Lunin will be unable to sit on the bench for Saturday’s match against Valencia, unless the club appeals to a higher body (Apelación or TAD) and wins—a highly unlikely scenario.
Lunin, however, was not the only player affected by the Clásico. Five others received yellow cards for “arguing or confronting an opponent without resorting to insults or threats.” For Barcelona, Ferran Torres and Alejandro Balde were booked. For Real Madrid, Éder Militão, Vinicius Jr, and Rodrygo received yellow cards.

Additionally, the Competition Committee confirmed a one-match suspension for Pedri due to accumulating two yellow cards (both clear fouls). Barcelona did not contest this, so Pedri will rest during Sunday’s home match against Elche at Montjuïc.
