While much of Barcelona was still recovering from a long night of celebrations for the league title, activity in the club’s offices was already underway early Monday morning. According to exclusive information obtained by SPORT, Deco met with Pini Zahavi, the agent of Robert Lewandowski and Hansi Flick, in a key meeting regarding the Polish striker’s future. The summit concluded with a preliminary agreement for the coach’s renewal for one more season—through 2028—with an additional optional year.
The meeting covered several topics, but the main one was Robert Lewandowski’s future. The Polish striker continues to seriously consider his options for next season, and as of now, he has not yet made a final decision. However, the reality is that he is evaluating all available possibilities and harbors significant doubts.
As a curious note, a group of fans stopped the Polish striker after he left the Spotify Camp Nou to ask if he would stay at Barcelona. His brief response was “I don’t think so,” accompanied by a head shake. The uncertainty is clear.
What seems indisputable is that nothing can be held against the Polish attacker, who has performed at a high level since his arrival. With goals and an impeccable attitude even in the toughest moments, he has been a key figure in helping Barcelona move past an especially difficult period.
The player holds the final say. Until now, the Catalan club had not presented any written renewal proposal nor discussed specific figures with the player’s camp. This situation had complicated Lewandowski’s decision-making process, especially since other offers have come with clear numbers on the table. Both from Saudi Arabia and the MLS—specifically Chicago Fire—have presented very strong and well-defined financial offers.
The striker believes he is at a pivotal moment in his career. At 38 years old and having just celebrated his birthday, he knows this could be the last major contract of his professional journey. That is why he wants to reflect calmly and discuss it with his family before making a definitive decision. In fact, within his inner circle and even in the locker room, he has never hidden that the offers he has received are causing him to seriously question his next step.
Notably, Lewandowski himself hinted yesterday after the match and during celebrations that he does not rule out finishing his career in a less competitive league. He understands that he has won practically everything in football and considers it entirely legitimate to also weigh personal and financial factors before putting an end to a career full of individual and collective successes.
Sources close to the negotiations assure that, at this hour, no decision has been made or finalized, but they do not deny that the player has many doubts.
Flick’s renewal is considered done. Additionally, the meeting also addressed Hansi Flick’s situation and his contract extension. The club had already assumed that the German coach’s continuity was well on track, and it has now been confirmed. However, the coach himself will decide the timing of the official announcement. Barcelona is delighted with Flick’s work, his attitude, and especially the transformation he has brought to the team in a very short period. There is no rush, and all parties maintain an excellent relationship. Meanwhile, Lewandowski’s future remains one of the major topics addressed this morning.
